I wrote this song in 1976 when i was domg a one-man act in US Army clubs in Germany. I loved it because the GIs are a great audience and appreciate everything you do for them, and they like CW, folk, and old dime rock and roll, so I got to sing a lot of Cylan, Wilie Nelson, KrisKristoffersen, and Johnny Cash, some John Denver, Hank Williams, and even Gov. Jimmy Davis's "You Are My Sunshine" plus a whole string of songs I wrote in a concentrated period of about three months, including Get it On, Train, Train, Cockelshells and Me, Flickering Fingers, You Can't make Country Memories Go Away, Tattered Photographs and Faded Torn Love Letters, and The Granite Pit.
This is the first song from that period that I've posted on YouTube. Years ago I threw away the large book I'd written the songs in, but I have some of the lyrics on my computer, and I'll try to reconstruct those old songs and post them when I can.
Get It On was one of those songs that could have been done by a Black artist, and then covered by someone like Elvis. I added the lines about the Lexus this week.
